We are pleased to announce updates to the Classic Legacy ban list, effective January 2025. This changes applies to future events and does not affect online leagues currently in progress.
To ensure a balanced and enjoyable metagame, these changes will be reviewed every six months. This ongoing evaluation will help us maintain a diverse and fun play environment while addressing any potential imbalances that arise from unbanned cards.

Unbans
Two iconic cards – Regrowth and Black Vise – have been unbanned and will be legal for use in all upcoming Classic Legacy tournaments.
Why These Changes?
Classic Legacy is a curated format that celebrates the rich history of Magic from its inception to 2010. Our goal with this update is to preserve the spirit of Classic Legacy while allowing for incremental changes that keep the format fresh and engaging. Regrowth and Black Vise have been carefully evaluated within this framework, and we believe their reintroduction will enhance, not disrupt, the metagame.
Regrowth is now unbanned
Back in the day Regrowth was banned for its ability to recycle powerful spells, leading to repetitive and uninteractive gameplay loops. However, after careful review, we believe Regrowth can safely return to the format. While still a strong card, its overall impact is unlikely to disrupt the current balance of Classic Legacy.
Black Vise is now unbanned
Black Vise was originally banned for its ability to punish slower strategies, often leading to non-interactive early-game scenarios. However, we now consider Black Vise to be a reasonable addition to the format, providing aggressive decks with another tool without significantly warping gameplay.
Thank you for your continued enthusiasm and dedication to Classic Legacy. We’re excited to see how the community adapts to these changes and the innovative decks that will emerge as a result.
